We have begun an inquiry into plastic. Today as we explored plastic bottles filled with plastic, I noticed something new. I observed as the toddlers shook the bottles up and down how the plastic inside the bottles moved in different ways. I was curious how the plastic in the bottles would change or stay the same if I spun the bottles on the ground. Would the movement of the bottles change if I spun the bottles on different levels? I then started to research how each bottle spun differently depending on the shape, size, and contents of the bottle. I noticed as I spun each bottle how the beads, bingo tabs, and decorative glitter would split to each side of the bottle, and this naturally would slow down the movement of the bottle. Whereas the knives and plastic bags and lighter materials made the bottle spin faster. It\u2019s interesting how the plastic content inside the bottle plays a huge role in how the bottle moves. How would an empty bottle spin? Or a bottle that was filled to the top? Would it be quicker, or would it slow down so there was hardly any movement?<\/span><\/p>\n
